Young European Leadership participated in the 7th International Energy Forum 2014 in St. Gallen, Switzerland, in the facilities of the Parliament of the Canton of St.Gallen! YEL was present with four delegates from Greece, the Netherlands, Sweden and UK/France.
The IEF has firmly established itself as one of the leading events on energy law and policy. The 2014 edition of the annual event receives additional importance in light of the current geopolitical situation, especially for Europe. High-ranking speakers informed and debated on the current trends in European and International Energy Law. The Forum is the annual meeting point for about 150 participants from advocacy, the business world, academia as well as public authorities. The topics of the IEF 2014 centered around Energy Europe and its Neighbours, The EU Internal Energy Market, Shale Gas, Energy Dispute Resolution and the Switzerland – EU energy relations.The delegation of YEL attended the entire IEF. In addition YEL organized dedicated meetings with speakers for YEL’s delegation to foster more intimate conversations about the pressing topics at hand. The meetings took place with Prof. Alan Riley of City University London, Mr. Ruben Vermeeren, Policy Officer on the EU Internal Energy Market of the European Commission, Mr. Fabrizio Barbaso, former Deputy Director General of DG Energy of the European Commission, Prof. Helmut Schmitt von Sydow, Université de Lausanne, and Mr. Alex Lautenberg, Senior Policy Advisor at Steptoe and expert in European affairs.

- Mr. Kevin Mendeszoon

Kevin is a programming officer for Young European Leadership and has been involved in several activities, e.g. the Young European Council 2014. He is currently pursuing a BA in International Business Law at Leiden University in the Netherlands.
- Ms. Linn Taylor
- YEL Delegate, from Sweden
Linn has an engineering background and went on to completing an MSc in Energy and Environmental Technology and Economics. Alongside her studies she completed two internships at the World Energy Council where she gained further insight in future energy scenarios as well as analyzing energy data and contributing to their publications. For her final dissertation she was awarded the Fueller’s prize in January 2014.

Eleni is a young lawyer qualified in Greece and a Doctoral Researcher currently living in Brussels working at the Energy Charter Secretariat. She is pursuing her PhD in the field of Energy Transit and Energy Security at the Geneva School of Diplomacy and International Relations. She received her academic education through two Master Degrees in Transnational Commercial Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution and in Energy, Environmental and Climate Change Law at the International Hellenic University and University of Malta respectively.
- Mr. Alexandre Moor

Alexandre is a consultant in the Energy and Climate Change team at Arup. He is a mechanical engineer by training and specializes mainly in decentralized energy projects for clients looking for energy resilience or low carbon energy and projects with the C40 group on cities action on climate change. He also does financial modeling of energy projects.
